Britney Spears has sold the rights to her autobiography to Universal.
Britney Spears' memoirs, in which she spoke frankly about exploitation and abuse by her parents and failed relationships, made a lot of noise last year. Naturally, film studios could not help but become interested in such rich material about the star's life.
According to NBC, after intense bidding for the rights, Universal Pictures announced that it would be developing the project. The news was confirmed on the social network X (formerly Twitter) by the singer herself. "I'm excited to share with my fans that I'm working on a secret project with Mark Platt. He always makes my favorite movies... Stay tuned," Spears wrote.
Despite the fact that she called the development of the biopic a secret, journalists have already learned the first details about the upcoming film. They confirmed that the producer will be Platt, who worked on the Legally Blonde franchise and was a member of the production team of the Oscar-winning musical La La Land.
The film will be directed by John M. Chu. He is the director of the fantasy musical "Wicked" with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, which will be released in November this year. It is known that Spears will be directly involved in the film. But it is not yet known in what role.
Spears' memoir The Woman in Me was published in October 2023. The book tells the story of the singer's rise to fame, her complicated mental state, 13 years of custody by her father, as well as Britney's relationship and breakup with Justin Timberlake. In particular, the world learned that her boyfriend forced her to have an abortion while they were together.
"I went from being a party girl to a complete nun. The guards handed me pre-packaged envelopes of medication and watched me take them. Parental controls were installed on my iPhone. Everything was carefully checked and controlled. Everything," Spears wrote in her memoir.
There is no information yet on who will write the script for the movie. It is also unknown who will be in the cast, including the role of Spears herself, as well as when the biopic will start shooting.
