Ukraine may start imposing fines for vehicles exceeding the permissible noise level. The penalty is expected to be set at UAH 17,000. For a repeated violation, the fine will be UAH 34,000.

The corresponding draft law No. 9564 has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. The document was included in the parliament's agenda in early February. Accordingly, MPs can consider it at any time.

The explanatory note to the document states that the need to introduce a fine is because some drivers install equipment on their vehicles, the use of which leads to a significant increase in engine noise. Which:

  • violates the "peace and quiet of citizens";
  • causes public discontent.

What makes the situation worse is that "during martial law, such noise sounds are similar to the sounds of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles." This creates a perception of aviation and missile danger, "distracting the Armed Forces and law enforcement."

What is the fine for exceeding the permissible noise level by vehicles

According to the draft law, fines and deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle are planned to be imposed for violation of noise regulations. In particular:

  • for the first violation, a fine of UAH 17,000 is envisaged;
  • a fine of UAH 34,000 and deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of 3 to 6 months for the second offense.

However, the right to drive may not be taken away. In particular, the draft law states that repeated violation will only be punishable by a fine.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, at the same time, car owners who have decided to install gas-cylinder equipment (HBO) must re-register their cars – if they fail to do so, they may receive a fine. To do this, you need to contact any convenient service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs within 10 days after the vehicle conversion. You must have a package of documents with you, including a passport of a citizen of Ukraine or an ID card, as well as a taxpayer registration number.
