On the morning of December 20, several checkpoints on the Ukrainian border saw a large number of cars, ranging from 5 to 120 units. At the same time, many checkpoints allow only vehicles to pass through, with no pedestrians allowed. Most of these checkpoints are on the border with Poland.

This was reported by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. They noted that as of 9:00 a.m., congestion was recorded at the checkpoints:

Many checkpoints do not allow pedestrians to cross the border. For example, on the border with Poland, these are the checkpoints:

  • "Yagodyn" (also temporarily not allowing passenger cars);
  • "Ustyluh";
  • "Uhryniv";
  • "Rava-Ruska";
  • "Hrushiv";
  • "Krakivets";
  • "Smilnytsia".

On the border with Slovakia – "Uzhhorod."

On the border with Hungary – "Tysa."

On the border with Romania – "Diakove."

In general, pedestrians may not be allowed to cross the border for various reasons. In particular:

  • For security reasons;
  • due to repairs, etc.

Ukraine and Romania will be connected by another border crossing

The government's representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, said earlier that Ukraine and Romania will be connected by another border crossing – a 261-meter highway border bridge across the Tysa River.

The bridge will be built between the Zakarpattia village of Bila Tserkva and the Romanian city of Sighetu Marmatiei. A checkpoint is also planned to be built there.

The construction is scheduled to be completed in January 2025. After that, the facility will be put into operation. The total cost of the project is 168.7 million lei (over UAH 383 million).

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on December 20, 2024, the "Nyzhankovychi – Malkhovychi" automobile checkpoint will start operating on the Ukrainian-Polish border, which will reduce the load on other crossings. The checkpoint will be open for passenger and freight transport, and pedestrian traffic will begin after the completion of infrastructure construction.
