The first day of the new year 2025 presented Ukrainians with an incredibly beautiful sunset. In the evening, the sky was painted with bright colors – from orange and fiery red to purple and many shades of pink and purple.

The sky on the evening of January 1 surprised with a variety of colors. It was burning crimson-red, then shining with many shades of yellow and orange, then painted in pink, purple, and purple colors.

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center explained that on the first day of the new year, Ukrainians had the opportunity to observe an incredibly beautiful natural phenomenon that meteorologists call "purple light." This phenomenon is the coloring of the sky in bright purple or pink-purple shades during sunset or sunrise.

"This happens because the sun's rays pass through a thick layer of the atmosphere when the sun is low above the horizon. Particles of dust or moisture in the air scatter short-wave light, and long-wave, mostly red and purple colors reach us. This phenomenon can often be seen in humid and clear weather," the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center explained.

By the way, the same phenomenon could be observed at dawn on January 1.
