Ukrainian women will be able to get a vocational education for traditionally "male" professions that pay up to 40 thousand hryvnias. They can study in this specialty free of charge or with a partial payment (which can even be covered by the employer).

According to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, participants in the state program will have the opportunity to learn more than 30 professions. Women will be trained at the request of an employer who undertakes to employ them after completing the courses.

The employer can order the training at the employment center, and the women will choose the right one among the institutions that provide training in their profession. Dozens of different specialties will be available to them, including:

  • tram and trolleybus driver (salary up to UAH 36 thousand);
  • forklift driver (salary up to UAH 39 thousand);
  • Operator of CNC machines (salary up to UAH 36 thousand);
  • Milling operator (salary up to 40 thousand UAH);
  • a master of installation and maintenance of renewable energy systems and others (salary up to UAH 36 thousand).

The Employment Center will partially cover the cost of training by allocating up to 10 subsistence minimums for able-bodied persons (i.e., UAH 30,280 as of November 2024). If the cost of training exceeds this amount, the employer or project participant will have to pay the difference out of pocket.

"This program will help women learn new professions where they were previously less represented. Women will be able to master more than 30 professions at public expense, including the most popular among employers. Businesses will be able to train the necessary specialists, which they are currently experiencing a shortage of," said Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that the Ministry of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine had launched a project to train truck drivers. Applications were submitted 10 times more than the number of available places – more than 1000 women expressed their desire to participate.
