Ukrainian money recognized as one of the best in the world: what the winner of the prestigious competition looks like

The Ukrainian commemorative coin "Courage to be. UA" won the nomination "Best Coin about a Contemporary Event" of the prestigious international coin competition "Coin of the Year." It also entered the top 10 coins in the world according to its results.

This was reported by the National Bank. They noted that the coin

• has a face value of UAH 10;
• is made of silver;
• is dedicated to the courage of the Ukrainian nation;
• continues the series "My Ukraine is Immortal."

"The commemorative coin "Courage to be. UA" commemorative coin is special for us. It reflects what unites all Ukrainians. This is courage! Every day during this war, the whole world is watching with admiration the many examples of courage and strength of spirit of Ukrainians. There is no doubt that courage is being Ukrainian. That is why everyone will be able to see their face on the mirror background of our coin and feel part of unbroken Ukraine," the NBU said.

The international Coin of the Year competition is held annually by the authoritative numismatic publication World Coin News with the support of The Journal of East Asian Numismatics. International experts determined the winners among nearly 600 coins from 42 countries issued in 2023.

What the coin looks like

The obverse of the coin (front side) features a stylized composition symbolizing Ukraine. In particular, on the mirror background are

• a sword blade;
• the small State Emblem of Ukraine on the top.

"The image of our homeland is embodied in the symbol of the trident, which is at the forefront of time, modern trends, social processes, world attention, and the creation of a new world history," the regulator explained.

The reverse side of the coin features a composition that "reflects the phenomenon of courage and heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people." Thus,

• the center depicts a golden star – "a symbolic parallel to the Star of Bethlehem" – which destroyed "the unshakable ideological (mythical) 'stone-concrete' of the invincibility of the Russian army";
• there is a vertical inscription below the star: Courage to be. UA.

What is known about the coin

The coin "Courage to be. UA" was put into circulation on August 23, 2023. It has a face value of UAH 10 and is made of 925 silver weighing 31.1 grams.

In addition, the coin is decorated with local gilding (gold content is not less than 0.00009 g). The diameter of the coin is 38.6 mm. The mintage is up to 5,000 pieces.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the National Bank has put into circulation a new commemorative coin dedicated to the communications and cybersecurity troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Its face value is 10 UAH.
