Ukraine turned out to be the worst in the world in terms of birth rate: statistics and possible consequences

Ukraine has the worst fertility rate in the world. On average, 10 women have only 6 children, while there should be 11 children per 10 women to replace generations, taking into account infant mortality.

This is stated in the material of OBOZ.UA. McKinsey Global Institute analysts have collected data on fertility around the world. The blue and blue zones are a conditional area of the map that is in "demographic security." Here, the birth rate per woman is more than two children. Therefore, a couple of adults will leave behind a couple of children, and there will be a replacement of generations. The situation is best in Sub-Saharan Africa (parts of the African continent south of the Sahara Desert: Guinea, Niger, Rwanda, and 46 other countries), where 10 couples of adults leave behind 44 children on average. At the same time, the highest birth rates are in the poorest countries.

Ukraine, where even during a full-scale war the standard of living is much better than in most countries of Sub-Saharan Africa (but the lowest in Europe), has the worst birth rate in the world. The McKinsey Global Institute's demographic map shows two dark burgundy spots: Greater China (Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore) and Ukraine. But while Greater China has a birth rate of one child per family, Ukraine has even less. On average, during the war, there were only six children per 10 families (according to Ukrainian demographers). According to the analysts' map, this is the worst figure in the world.

Moreover, if we analyze the situation in different parts of the world, not only Ukraine, but the whole of Europe is in trouble. The average birth rate here is 1.4 children per couple (or 14 children per 10 couples). This is twice as good as in Ukraine, but much worse than it should be to stop depopulation.

While the terrible situation in Ukraine is primarily due to a full-scale war (and with it emigration, premature death, postponed decisions about parenthood, etc.), in Europe demographics is explained, among other things, by a change in priorities. A modern European woman seeks to build a career and sees many ways for self-realization. By the way, a similar "bad" situation exists in the United States, where 16 children are born per 10 families. For simple generational replacement, taking into account premature deaths, 10 couples would have to leave behind 21 children. Then (without taking into account migration processes) the population would not change.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Ukrainians who left the country because of Russia's full-scale invasion and do not plan to return are currently the largest demographic loss, which cannot be compared to the losses at the front. Every month, the number of our fellow citizens who decide not to return from countries that have granted them asylum increases by about 100-150 thousand.

The UN predicts that by 2100, Moldova's population will be reduced to 1.5 million people, which is almost half. There is already an opinion in Chisinau that Ukrainian refugees, who number about 100,000 in the country, can slightly improve the demographic situation.
