The Venice Film Festival 2024 has announced its winners. The Golden Lion statuette was awarded to the film by Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, The Room Next Door, which received a record 18-minute ovation at the screening. None of the Ukrainian films appeared in the list of winners again. Last year the situation was identical.

The Silver Lion (Grand Jury Prize and Best Director Award) went to Maura Delpero's Vermiglio and Brady Corbet's The Brutalist. All the winners were announced on the website of the Venice Film Festival 2024.

In total, two directors from Ukraine submitted their films: Olha Zhurba (Songs of Slow Burning Earth) and Zhanna Ozirna (Honeymoon). Neither of them was shortlisted.

Both of them told about the first days of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. Moreover, Honeymoon received a standing ovation from the audience after its screening at the Venice Film Festival on September 2. Only 8 million hryvnias were allocated for filming and all organizational work, which is 3 times less than "a standard author's film in Ukraine."
