Two powerful flares were recorded on the Sun: when will the Earth feel the consequences

Explosions on May 5 belong to the X-class (the strongest flares)

Two powerful solar flares occurred on the Sun on Sunday, May 5. According to astronomers, the magnetic storms will continue on Monday, May 6, and the effects of the new storm will be felt no earlier than Wednesday, May 8.

According to the Meteoagent portal, on Easter, the strength of the solar storm reached 5 points, which is considered a strong storm according to the K-index. On Monday, the storm's strength will increase to 6 points.

SpaceWeather said that the rapidly growing sunspot AR3663, which has become the most active sunspot of the 25th solar cycle, has just today produced two X-class (strongest) and six M-class (medium strength) flares.

"Each of these flares resulted in a brief but profound blackout of the Earth's radio signal, resulting in signal loss at frequencies below 30 MHz. These events are easily detected by radio amateurs, aviators, and sailors who use short waves for communication," the portal said.

Only about six hours elapsed between today's two explosions, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy (RF) said. The first, of higher power X, was registered at 9:01 a.m. (Kyiv time), and the second at 14:54.

At the same time, the geomagnetic effects of the current storm will be visible no earlier than Wednesday and are "completely unclear," the laboratory said.

According to astronomers, the magnetic storms expected on Monday and Tuesday, May 6-7, are in no way related to what happened on the Sun today and are caused by previous processes. There is no forecast for Wednesday, as well as no general understanding of the possible impact of current events on the planet. The observational data are being analyzed, the Solar Astronomy Laboratory said.

How to protect yourself from the effects of magnetic storms

As you know, weather-dependent people can experience headaches and cardiovascular diseases due to solar flares. Therefore, on unfavorable days, it is especially important to adhere to the basic principles of a healthy lifestyle: go to bed on time, take care of the quality of your diet, and drink plenty of water.

Therefore, you should reduce the amount of fatty, spicy, salty, sweet foods, coffee, and alcohol, quit smoking, and avoid excessive physical activity. Walks in the fresh air are useful, but it is advisable to have the necessary medications on hand.
