Travel blogger named the ideal cities in Europe for traveling alone
Traveling alone is a special kind of travel. It allows you to fully immerse yourself in a new environment, discover yourself from a new perspective, and enjoy freedom without restrictions.
If you are looking for a unique experience and the opportunity to be alone with your own thoughts, then you should visit more authentic locations rather than popular tourist destinations. Claire Sturzaker, a traveler who has visited 43 countries, from America to Europe and Australia, shared her own list of the best of them.
With Barcelona locals protesting against mass tourism and Venice and other popular tourist destinations packed with crowds, Sturzacker recommended some lesser-known cities to add to your future travel list.
Zaragoza
Zaragoza is a great place for a two or three day trip. The center of the old town offers a unique historical journey and incredibly delicious food.
The traveler also noted the combination of Gothic, Mudejar and Renaissance architecture. Near the river is the Basilica del Pilar cathedral with a bell tower, which you can climb to see an incredibly beautiful view of the city. All visitors should also explore the local Roman ruins.
Bilbao
If you are an art lover or a foodie, you will especially enjoy this city. Be sure to visit the exceptional pintxos bars in Nueva Plaza and take a walk to the Guggenheim Museum.
Also, don't forget about the observation deck and the funicular de Arxanda to appreciate the view of the city from above.
Bologna
If you find yourself in Bologna, you should definitely arrange a gastronomic tour. If you take a guided tour, the guide will take you around the market and show you where you can try the best food. And during a day tour, you will visit the countryside around the city to see the Parma Parmesan factory, ham production, and balsamic vinegar.
Milan
Despite the fact that this city is quite popular, it does not have as many tourists as Rome or Venice. Milan has stunning architecture and great food. Sturtzacker noted that travelers should take pasta cooking classes and climb to the roof of the Duomo, the Italian Renaissance cathedral, to look at the stars.
Budapest
Sturzaker believes that Budapest is one of the best destinations in Europe for both budget and luxury travel. She advised taking a tour of the parliament and exploring the old Jewish quarter, which has many abandoned buildings.
Belfast
Belfast in Northern Ireland is another underrated destination for individual travel. A trip there will cost much less than to Dublin, but you will get an unrivaled experience.
Over the past 20 years, according to Sturtzacker, the city has become a cultural center with impressive street art and unique attractions such as the Titanic Museum.
Tbilisi
The Georgian city of Tbilisi is great for solo travelers as it has affordable, easy-to-use public transportation.
Tbilisi offers an interesting mix of architecture with unique and beautiful buildings throughout the city in different styles. There are also many good bars and restaurants. In general, according to Sturzaker, the city has an atmosphere reminiscent of Berlin.
Perth
In Australia, most people go to Sydney and Melbourne, but Sturzacker recommends heading to Perth. The city itself has a pleasant atmosphere. Tourists should definitely visit the Royal Park and Botanical Gardens to see the beautiful scenery, as well as several museums to learn about the history of the area.
