In winter, the risk of dangerous situations increases significantly. Foggy windows, ice on the road, or frozen windshield - these and other common winter nuances create a lot of inconvenience for drivers.

However, there are a number of simple and cheap or even completely free tricks that will literally save you from unnecessary problems during winter. Motor Biscuit magazine has provided the details.

Tip 1

A very effective, albeit rather funny, life hack is to use an ordinary sock and cat litter (clean, of course).

Socks or leggings filled with cat litter can prevent condensation. The main function of cat litter is to absorb moisture. The filler can literally "pull" excess moisture out of the air so that you can easily get rid of the problem of fogging windows. Experts recommend leaving a sock with a filler behind the dashboard overnight so that the main focus is on the windshield. You can also leave several socks in the car overnight to prevent the rear windows from fogging up.

Tip 2

In cold weather, park on the east side, if possible. Yipes, a Vermont-based car accessories dealer, offers a simple solution to parking your car facing the sunrise. The idea is that the windshield will be directed against the sun at dawn. This will create conditions for the glass and windows to defrost naturally.

Tip 3

It is about cats again. Cat litter is one of the best car life hacks in itself. When you're done filling your socks or leggings with it, just throw the bag of kitty litter in the trunk. Experts say it's one of the "most valuable tools" you can have on hand in the winter. For example, your car is stuck in a snowdrift. All you need to do is pour kitty litter under the tire and slowly step on the gas.

Tip 4

Hand sanitizer will come in handy too. When you need to insert the key into the door to unlock the car, you run the risk of facing one of the most unpleasant situations in winter. The lock can freeze, causing the key to get stuck. If you pour a little hand sanitizer on the key before inserting it, the alcohol will quickly melt the ice inside.

Tip 5

WD40 can also save the day. Of course, this car life hack is nothing new. WD-40 is an aerosolized product developed in 1953. Initially, the main function of the aerosol was to prevent corrosion, as it acts as a water repellent. Later, it was discovered that WD-40 also has many possibilities for household use.

After unlocking a frozen lock, spray it with WD40 - this can help prevent it from freezing again.
