Director M. Night Shyamalan is called one of the most controversial directors in Hollywood as he either delivers a real masterpiece with a strong suspense (The Sixth Sense, Split) or completely fails (Old, After Earth). It seems that his next film, the thriller Trap, will be one of his truly successful ones.

The movie, starring Josh Hartnett, tells the story of a father who takes his daughter to a concert of a famous singer. As the show progresses, Cooper, the hero's name, begins to notice that something is wrong. It turns out that the concert is a trap set up by the police to catch a brutal maniacal killer. And this maniac, nicknamed the Butcher, is Cooper. This begins a game of survival in which the viewer will have a hard time making the right moral choice.

The critics who have already seen the film are praising Josh Hartnett's performance, Shyamalan's skills and the film's ominous atmosphere. They note how much humanity the lead actor brought to his dark character and how he made the audience empathize with him. Hartnett's performance in this complex character is called outstanding.

Some critics describe Trap as 'absolute banger', 'a return to form for M. Night Shyamalan', and a 'masterclass in building suspense'. The director knows how to twist the plot in such a way as to confuse the viewer and stun them with an unexpected ending. And in his new work he demonstrates this to the fullest.

They also note the music, which works well for the development of the plot. The character of Lady Raven, at whose concert the events take place, was embodied by a young singer and actress Saleka Shyamalan. She shared her hits for the movie and the director skillfully wove them into the plot.

The film will be released in Ukraine on August 1. In addition to directing, Shyamalan was traditionally responsible for the script. Josh Hartnett's co-stars include Ariel Donoghue (Wolf Like Me), Hayley Mills (The Parent Trap), Alison Pill () and others.
