Three Ukrainian regional centers have been recognized as ones of the most expensive among 94 cities in Europe in terms of cost of living. They are at the bottom of the ranking and are considered to be among the cheapest on the list. Statistics for the first half of 2024 were taken into account.
The rating, compiled by the Numbeo analytical center, includes Kyiv, Odesa, and Lviv. Geneva, Switzerland, topped the list with a cost of living index of 101.7. Ukrainian Lviv took the last 94th place with a score of 25.8.

All indices were measured in comparison to New York, USA. It follows that life in Switzerland is 1.7% more expensive than in New York, and in Lviv, it is 74.2% cheaper. To create this index, analysts took into account average prices for groceries, restaurants, transportation, and utilities, but excluded rent and mortgage.

In particular, the local purchasing power index was calculated, which indicates the relative purchasing power in a particular city based on the average net salary. Odesa received the lowest score, but the cost of living of the locals was 1.4 points higher than that of Lviv, amounting to 27.2.

The capital proved to be the most expensive city in Ukraine. The cost of living index in Kyiv was 28.6 and rents were 9.5, which is 90.5% cheaper than New York, and local purchasing power was 43.7, which is significantly higher than Odesa (40.4) and lower than Lviv (44.5).
