This simple Wi-Fi setup will make your gadgets faster than ever: what you need to change

Alina MilsentNews

One simple life hack will help you improve the Internet speed for the devices you use most often. You don't have to call in the experts or read long manuals.

For some reason, this is a rather little-known feature on Wi-Fi routers. The Sun has revealed how a simple Wi-Fi setting can make gadgets faster than ever.

Expert Kim Komando noted that users often overlook the Quality of Service option available on many Wi-Fi routers.

The setting allows you to control how much bandwidth is allocated to any of your devices connected to the network.

In practice, this means that you can prioritize some devices yourself: for example, Smart TV instead of Microsoft Windows updates. The options you choose will connect faster.

"We often complain about Internet speeds in YouTube buffering or Netflix quality drops, but the main culprit is often an 'army' of gadgets that interfere with your Wi-Fi," Kim emphasized.

She recommended accessing QoS provisioning and clarified, "If you want to prioritize your smart TV, it doesn't mean that Windows updates or other functionality will completely freeze. Other gadgets will work, but much slower."

Products that offer this service include Google Nest, TP-Link, NETGEAR, and Linksys routers.

QoS settings are usually found in the "Wireless Settings" section. You should go to the device settings and select the options in the "Advanced" section, such as "Preferred activities" or "Device Priority".

The American tech company Intel shared similar information on its website, "Some routers have Quality of Service (QoS) settings that allow you to control which applications have priority access to Internet bandwidth.

For example, you can prioritize video calls if you have a lot of meetings and de-prioritize file downloads from the cloud.
