Armenia is a mountainous country located in the eponymous highlands framed by the Lesser Caucasus Range. Unique landscapes are also created by the intermountainous Ararat plain in the southwest.

Tourists mostly ignore this beautiful country, so it is the perfect destination, experts say. Currently, Lonely Planet has included Armenia in the top 10 best places to visit in 2025.

Armenia is known for its rich history, culture and natural beauty. This landlocked country is located in the south of the Caucasus Mountains (southeastern Europe and Western Asia) and borders Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkey.

Armenia is home to a number of spectacular sites, from historical monuments to incredible architecture and unique gardens. In the country, you can see its impressive monasteries, the new Armenian National Trail, or enjoy a glass of delicious wine in one of its ancient vineyards.

Armenia is one of the oldest countries in Asia Minor and Transcaucasia and the first country to adopt Christianity as the state religion. Thus, you can see many religious monuments here.

One of the most popular places to visit is the Monastery of Geghard by the Azat River. Known for its rock-cut churches and deep spiritual significance, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is sure to leave a lasting impression. Founded in the 4th century, Geghard blends perfectly with its mountainous surroundings.

The complex includes various churches and tombs, many of which are carved right into the mountainside. Inside, there are dimly lit rooms decorated with ancient carvings.

If you want to wander around the city and explore it, you can visit the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, and walk to the Republic Square. Here you can easily feel the Christmas mood, especially during the holiday season. There is a giant Christmas tree in the center of the square, and carols and Christmas songs are played all night long, creating a real holiday atmosphere.

About 70% of the republic's territory is located above 1500 meters above sea level. The highest point is Mt. Aragats - 4,090 meters. Lake Sevan is the largest lake in the country and a great place to visit too.
