France set a World Cup record

The French women's biathlon team became the first team in history to take the top four places in a World Cup race in the twenty-first century. This happened as a result of the sprint at the 2024 World Championships, which are currently taking place in Nové Mesto, Czech Republic.

"The Tricolor team showed a simply enchanting result, putting to shame all the experts who had placed their main bet on the Norwegians. The winner of the race was Julie Simon, who covered the 7.5 kilometer course in 20 minutes and 7.5 seconds. She was five seconds ahead of Justine Breza-Boucher. "Lou Jeanmonneau took the bronze medal, and the so-called wooden medal went to Sophie Chauvet.

This result was the first time in the last 40 years that a single team managed to take the first four places in the final standings in the women's World Cup program. In 1984, at a tournament in Chaman, France, the USSR team achieved a similar feat.

Venera Chernysheva, Lyudmila Zabolotnaya, Tatyana Brylina, and Kaya Parve were the best at the time. They won the individual 10-kilometer race. At the same time, Parve is Estonian. So it can be argued that the French women are the first ever representatives of one nationality to take the entire top 4 at world championships. Interestingly, the 1984 World Championships were the first to include women.
