They were going to compete, but they will become neighbors: McDonald's will appear at gas stations in Ukraine
The fast food chain McDonald's has decided to open restaurants at gas stations. This will be the next step after the chain's restaurants appear on highways.
Thus, the company will refuse to compete with gas stations, said Vitaliy Stefurak, McDonald's Development Director in Ukraine. The first fast food restaurant in conjunction with a gas station is currently under construction in Odesa, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
He emphasized that in 2024 such restaurants will appear in other cities with a population of over a million people – before the start of Russia's full-scale aggression, more than a million people lived in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro. And in the coming years, McDonald's at gas stations will open on key highways.
"This is an example of a partnership project, the essence of which is that at a certain point on the highway, all the necessary range of services needed by motorists and travelers is formed. The same goes for the opportunity to eat. This is not competition, but a complement to each other and a choice for visitors. This year, we plan to implement such projects in regional centers, million-plus cities, or their satellites," said Stefurak.
He noted that his company prioritizes the location of the gas station, not the network to which it belongs. This is part of McDonald's development strategy, as well as the opening of the first suburban branch, which was a restaurant that appeared in the summer of 2023 on the Kyiv-Chop highway.
The new McD has become one of the largest in Ukraine. Its area is over 500 square meters. There are 133 seats for visitors inside, and the terrace can accommodate another 116 people. In addition, there is a parking area for not only private cars but also large buses.
OBOZ.UA also wrote about the changes in the recipe of the well-known McDonald's burgers. The company assures that they will be minor and will affect, in particular, the buns and the process of cooking cutlets. They do not plan to change prices in this regard.
