They have many advantages: the best electric station wagons in 2025

Yulia PoteriankoNews

The first wave of popular electric vehicles consisted mainly of SUVs, but in 2025 their range expanded. A wide range of electric models is now available on the market, from huge seven-seaters to compact city cars.

Brands have also begun to produce electric station wagons that combine the practicality and space of an SUV with the elegant appearance and dynamics of a smaller car. To help you better navigate this segment, Car Magazine has compiled a rating of the best of them.

Audi A6 e-Tron Avant

The Audi A6 e-Tron Avant is built on the VW Group's PPE platform, just like the Q6 e-Tron and Porsche Macan models. This station wagon offers a 502-liter trunk, which increases to 1,422 liters with the seats folded down. Three powertrains with up to 456 hp and a range of up to 700 km are available to buyers. The A6 uses the 800 architecture, so it is capable of fast charging with a capacity of 270 kW. On the other hand, it charges you from 10 to 80% capacity in just 21 minutes.

On the road, the A6 Avant delivers a refined and composed ride. The model's cabin is very tech-savvy and includes a 14.5-inch touchscreen and an advanced HUD. But its touchscreen controls are not particularly user-friendly. A few shortcomings aside, the A6 e-Tron Avant stands out as one of the most practical and premium electric wagons you can buy right now.

BMW i5 Tourer

This station wagon is based on the new generation 5 Series platform and is available in two variants: the eDrive40 with a single rear-mounted engine producing 335 hp and the M60 xDrive with two engines producing 593 hp. Both models are equipped with an 81.2 kWh battery, which provides a range of up to 580 km for the sedan and slightly less for the Touring.

In the cabin of the BMW i5 Tourer, you can find a digital setup with two screens and the latest version of BMW's iDrive UX. Although you can also use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto if you prefer. BMW says the Touring is calibrated to feel just like a sedan.

Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer

This model was created on the basis of the ID.7 sedan. Volkswagen engineers focused on long-distance comfort and as a result, created the perfect car for family travel or any frequent trips. The interior of the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer offers plenty of passenger space and perhaps the largest trunk on this list. However, like many Volkswagen ID models, the ID.7 Tourer relies on a touchscreen infotainment system, which is not very good in terms of user experience.

Overall, the ID.7 Tourer is one of the most practical and well-designed electric station wagons on the market. It may not be as premium as some on this list, but it impresses with its capabilities when it comes to price and practicality.

Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo

The electric car from Porsche is exactly as powerful and premium as you'd expect from it. The 4S variant produces 590 hp, accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.8 seconds, while the Turbo S boasts 939 hp and acceleration to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. Updated battery technology provides a maximum range of up to 615 km on a single charge and improved battery filling speed.

As for the trunk, you get up to 1200 liters with the rear seats folded down and an additional 36 mm of headroom in the rear compared to the standard Taycan. New features of the updated version include ultra-bright HD-Matrix headlights and an additional display screen for the passenger. The driving experience remains high, although, as with many electric vehicles, the braking feel can be a little inconsistent. The Active Ride system can also be confusing for more sensitive drivers.

MG 5 EV Estate

This relatively inexpensive electric station wagon offers a practical solution for those looking for an electric vehicle with plenty of space. The new model features a redesigned front end with slim LED headlights and clearer styling cues, making it more similar to MG's current electric vehicle range.

The interior of the model benefits from a new dashboard design, a taller center console, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen. With a WLTP range of up to 400 km, this is a good option for long trips, provided you plan your logistics. It is also perfectly suitable for daily commuting. The MG 5 EV wagon offers a convincing combination of space, range, and affordability.

Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Electric

The model shares a 154 hp electric motor and a 51 kWh battery pack with the hatchback but offers greater practicality. The wagon has a longer wheelbase and a larger boot of 516 liters, which increases to 1,553 liters with the rear seats folded down. Despite the additional space, the driving dynamics are also closer to the hatchback.

The disadvantages of the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Electric include a higher starting price for the base Design model, which increases even more for the top Ultimate trim. Also, this wagon has a somewhat limited range compared to competitors.

Peugeot E-308 SW

The Peugeot E-308 SW is equipped with a front-mounted 154-horsepower engine that accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 9.9 seconds. This car is more focused on comfort than performance.

Peugeot has provided the E-308 with a spacious trunk with 548 liters of space, expanding to 1574 liters with the rear seats folded down. The main problem with the model is its high price. It is more expensive than its competitors, although its stylish design and high-quality interior compensate for this.
