It's been six days since the Russian attack at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. Rescuers continue to extinguish smoldering fires and work to open the damaged structures of the Shelter.

This was reported by the State Emergency Service. "As of the morning of February 19, rescuers continue to extinguish smoldering areas and are working to partially open the structures of the shelter," the statement said.

Despite the damage, the situation is under control. The radiation background on the territory of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant does not exceed permissible standards.

On February 14, during a massive attack, Russia launched a drone with an explosive warhead that hit the shelter of the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. This caused a fire and significant structural damage.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the drone was flying at an altitude of 85 meters, which made it impossible to detect by radar. This proves once again that the attack was targeted.

The response efforts are ongoing.

As a reminder, on Monday, February 17, as of 10 a.m., three smoldering centers were recorded on the territory of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant as a result of a Russian drone strike on February 14. Relevant specialists are involved in extinguishing the fire.
