There are plenty of options: what car to buy instead of Tesla Model Y
In 2023, the Tesla Model Y became the most popular car in the world. However, not everyone wants to buy this undoubtedly comfortable and efficient car - some people are scared off by the price, others don't like the scandalous fame of the owner of the car brand, Elon Musk.
Well, for all of these people, there are already plenty of alternative electric crossovers on the market that compete well with Tesla. Inside EVs has collected five options that are definitely worthy of attention. According to journalists, some of them even outperform the famous Model Y in terms of performance.
Hyundai Ioniq 5
Built on the same E-GMP platform as the Ioniq 6, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is one of the most popular alternatives to the Model Y. The base model boasts an engine power of 168 hp and a range of 355 km. Yes, this is not very much, but you can improve the situation by choosing a version with a larger battery.
The simplest improved model will offer 225 hp and 490 km of range. Installing a second battery increases power to 320 hp, but reduces the range to 420 km. There is also a crazy Ioniq 5 N, which allows you to shift fake gears and listen to an imitation of the engine sound. It also behaves perfectly off-road.
Kia EV6
Despite the fact that the Kia EV6 has technical similarities with the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, it differs from them with a unique futuristic appearance. The model provides a more dynamic driving experience compared to Hyundai's counterparts. The base model has a 58 kWh battery with a range of 375 km.
To get a 77.4 kWh battery with a range of 500 km, you will have to pay extra. The Long Range AWD model adds a second engine on the front axle, bringing the power up to 320 hp, but reducing the range to 455 km. The hot 576-horsepower EV6 GT can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, but it is also a model that can travel only 330 km on a single charge.
Ford Mustang Mach-E
Ford builds one of the most enjoyable electric crossovers to drive, the Mustang Mach-E. It also boasts a great interior with plenty of space. As standard, you get 400 km of range and 267 horsepower from a single rear-mounted electric motor.
An upgrade to the Extended Range battery will increase the range of the model to 515 km. At the top of the Mach-E lineup is the Rally model, which has so much power that it can handle dirt roads with ease.
Chevrolet Equinox EV
The American car brand offers a wide range of features combined with a pleasant driving experience with this electric vehicle. It's also one of the most affordable models in its class, and you'll get a lot of benefits from it as well.
The basic front-wheel drive configuration has a range of 515 km. If you prefer all-wheel drive, you'll have to sacrifice a bit of autonomy - you can drive up to 460 km on a single charge. And these are not all the modifications available for purchase.
Polestar 4
The Swedish company has set out to create a sensation with its Polestar 4. Its coupe-like rear end resembles the Y and Mach-E models in terms of body design. But it has no rear window, which makes the car very unusual.
The basic single-engine model has a long range of 480 km and a decent power output of 272 hp. The choice of all-wheel drive will double the power to 544 hp. At the same time, the acceleration time to 100 km/s will be reduced from 6.9 seconds to 3.7 seconds. But the power reserve will also suffer, which will drop by 50 km.
