"There are great doubts about its accuracy": Russia has already used Zircon missiles against Ukraine twice

The aggressor country, the Russian Federation, has already fired at the territory of Kyiv region with a new 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missile twice. The wreckage of the second missile was found near Vyshneve.

This was said by Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, Vechirnii Kyiv media outlet reports. Currently, experts continue to study the wreckage of the Russian "forward" weapon.

"First of all, this 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missile does not fly at a speed of Mach 8-9 (about 10 thousand kilometers per hour), as the Russians claim. According to the relevant services, the missile only reaches 2500 kilometers per hour in the final section of the flight. Second, there are serious doubts about its accuracy. The missiles were hit by air defense and did not reach their targets. One fell in the Dnipro district, creating a large crater. The other landed in a field in the town of Vyshneve near Kyiv. Civilian infrastructure and civilians were damaged," Ruvin emphasized.

The expert added that currently, experts do not see the destructive power that an anti-ship missile with almost 400 kilograms of explosives should have. He reminded that Zircon was developed primarily as a weapon against aircraft carriers, which are very difficult to sink. However, it is unlikely that this missile will cope with its intended purpose.

"That is, another Russian "forward" missile, the Zircon, which was adopted in Russia in 2023, was not unique at all, just like their Kinzhal. The new "miracle weapon" failed to frighten Ukraine and its allies. We are continuing to examine the remains of this anti-ship missile and finding out its components. So far, we are investigating only two cases of enemy use of Zircon," Ruvin summarized.
