The youngest cities in Ukraine: what sights to visit there

Albina PanchenkoNews
Young cities of Ukraine

Who said that the most interesting locations are those with a long history? Probably someone who has never traveled to a very "young" place. Although they have existed not so long ago, believe me, they have a lot to brag about. So where to go - read below.

Pivdenne

Formerly known as Yuzhne. Due to the de-Russification and decommunization of names, it was recently renamed. Initially, local residents offered more than 150 options. But only two made it to the final. They voted for Port Anental.

In 1973, the construction of a port plant began here in the waters of the Small Adzhalitsky Estuary. In 1975, a settlement was built here for the workers of the enterprises. And in 1993, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine classified the town as a city of regional subordination.

We advise you to go to the Yeni-Dunia settlement. Some researchers associate it with an 18th-century Ottoman fortress.

Also take a walk in the Turkish Park, which was created in honor of Kemer. There are oriental-style architectural structures here. Also visit the Georgian Square. It is decorated with gazebos, grottoes, and man-made hills. There are also "wine amphorae" here.

Horishni Plavni

The town is located in Poltava region on the banks of the Dnipro River. In 1961, the construction of a mining and processing plant began here, as well as the arrangement of residential areas. In 1972, the village received the status of a town.

We recommend visiting the local history museum. Here, tourists will learn more about the historical aspect of the center and the way of life of the inhabitants. The exhibition halls contain dishes, clothes, pottery, appliances, knight's armor, etc. There are also expositions dedicated to the natural resources of the region.

Next, go to the Kremenchuk Plavni Landscape Park. The attraction is famous for its rich flora and fauna. Here you can see different species of birds, enjoy the silence, and take a boat ride.

By the way, not far from St. Nicholas Cathedral is the Cossack Tomb. The remains of the Cossacks, which were found during excavations of various mounds, are reburied here.

Pivdenoukrainsk

Formerly known as Yuzhnoukrainsk. The city was planned to be renamed Gard, but another name was chosen. It is located in Mykolaiv region. It is washed by the Southern Bug River.

The region is known for its energy industry. It is home to the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant, one of the largest in Ukraine.

First, go to Gardovyi Island. The natural center was considered part of the former Cossack palanquin. There is the Pugach rock, which has a strange shape. If you look at it from the side of the Sofiyivka Reservoir, you will see a human face. When you climb higher, it may seem that this is the image of a girl with long hair.

Also go to the Buzky Gard National Nature Park. It is located 50 kilometers away. Its territory is covered with canyons and steep rapids. Here you can often meet rafting and mountaineering enthusiasts.

Slavutych

It is located on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kyiv region. Its construction began in December 1986, after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster.

First, we recommend visiting the local history museum. Here, tourists can learn more about the culture of the region. They can also see an exhibition dedicated to the plant and the accident.

An interesting fact: a bottle of mineral water produced in 1986 is kept here. It was brought from Prypiat.

Next, take a walk through the unique neighborhoods. Eight republics were responsible for their creation. Armenians, Georgians, Estonians, Latvians, Azerbaijanis, and other nations joined the work. Be sure to go to the Baku neighborhood. There is a decorative panel covered with green and blue glaze.

Also visit the Central Park. There is a bronze figure of a roe deer here. The monument was built by Estonian craftsmen. By the way, the composition is a copy of the work of modernist Jaan Coort. The original can be seen in the Tallinn Museum.
