The winner of the Ballon d'Or 2024 has been announced: the ceremony was marked by a scandal, and the winner came on crutches
Manchester City midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez won the 2024 Ballon d'Or, which was awarded on October 28 in the French capital of Paris. The winner of the European Championships with the Spanish national team was ahead of his competitors in the 68th voting in history.
Rodrigo, who suffered a torn ACL at the beginning of the season and had to use crutches to get to Paris, was ahead of three Real Madrid players - Brazilian Vinicius Junior, Englishman Jude Bellingham and Spaniard Daniel Carvajal.
The main event of the event, apart from the announcement of the results, was the demarche of Real Madrid representatives. Just an hour before departing for Paris, the "cream of the crop" - Vinicius himself, goalkeeper Andrey Lunin, head coach Carlo Ancelotti and president Florentino Perez - refused to attend the ceremony.
The reason for such a radical step was that Madrid considered the voting results unfair. The "royal club" called it disrespectful that Vinicius did not receive the award.
It should be noted that Real Madrid was named the best team of the season, and Ancelotti was named the Coach of the Year. The team from the capital of Spain won the Spanish championship, the Super Cup and the Champions League.
