Ukrainian director Pavlo Ostrikov's film "U Are The Universe," which captivated foreign audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada, has now won the top prize at the Strasbourg Film Festival in France. This victory paved the way for the film to compete for the most prestigious European genre film award, the Golden Melies.
"U Are The Universe" was screened at the Festival Européen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg. On September 28, it won the most important Golden Octopus and Silver Melies awards there. The State Film Agency reported on the achievements of Pavlo Ostrikov's team.
The director has been working on the film for 7 years.

"The world premiere of Pavlo Ostrikov's debut film "U Are The Universe" took place as part of the Discovery program at the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2020, the film project became one of the winners of the 14th competitive selection of the State Film Agency. The production company ForeFilms began preparations for the shooting. For the filming, they created complex pavilion scenery in the pavilions of the National Cinematheque of Ukraine, an animatronic robot that moved independently in the frame, ship, and interior concepts to show all the space scenes in a truly "spacey" way, the agency reported.

What is the movie "U Are The Universe" about
The plot centers on a Ukrainian former trucker Andrii Melnyk, who turns out to be the last man in the universe after an explosion on Earth. Together with his robot friend, he goes into outer space and lives his routine life until a French woman, Catherine, gets in touch. Then the protagonist's journey focuses on finding that girl and requires a great deal of effort to cross the entire galaxy.
It is known that "U Are The Universe" will be released in Ukraine in 2025, but the exact date, or at least the approximate month, is still unknown.
The story centers on a Ukrainian former trucker, Andrii Melnyk.
