Buying a car is always a serious decision, and finding a quality model on the secondary market is an asterisked task. There is a high risk of buying a car that will require significant investments and constant repairs in the future.
Experts have ranked the most reliable used car trends. The Consumer Reports study focused on the reliability of five- to ten-year-old models, giving each brand an average score based on how reliable the cars are in long-term operation.

Lexus
Lexus is expected to lead the rating of the most reliable used car brands. The automaker scored an average of 75 out of 100. The following models were evaluated: Lexus EX, GS, IS, RX, and others.
Toyota
No one will be surprised that Toyota traditionally makes it to the list of the most reliable cars. This is a time-tested brand. The Japanese automaker scored an average of 73 points. Many models were evaluated - from 4Runner to Venza. Corolla Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, and Tacoma are considered the most reliable CR vehicles in their respective categories.
Mazda
Mazda took third place with an average score of 59 points. The following models were recognized as the most reliable: 3, 6, CX-3, CX-5, CX-9, and Miata. The 2019 Miata was awarded as the most reliable sports car under $20 thousand. The CX-9 is the most reliable three-row SUV in this price segment.
Acura
Acura showed an average reliability score of 57 points. The MDX, RDX, and TLX models were evaluated.
Honda
Honda ranks fifth on the list with an average reliability score of 55. The study involved Accord, Civic, CR-V, Odyssey, and several other models. The 2020 HR-V is considered the most reliable small SUV under $15,000.
Buick
Some car enthusiasts may be surprised to learn that Buick is also in the top 10. The American automaker scored an average score of 47. Consumer Reports took into account seven Buick models, ranging from the Enclave SUV to the discontinued Verano sedan.
BMW
BMW ranks seventh with an average reliability score of 46. In the study, experts reviewed seven models of the German automaker: from the compact 2 Series to the mid-size X5 SUV.
Subaru
Subaru ranks eighth on this list with an average reliability score of 46. In fact, it can be put on a par with BMW. Six Subaru models were taken into account for the study: Ascent, Crosstek, Forester, Impreza, Legacy, and Outback.
Nissan
The Japanese automaker also demonstrates high reliability. Almost the entire model range was evaluated in the study, from the electric Nissan Leaf to the three-row Pathfinder and subcompact Versa.
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz rounds out the top 10 with a reliability rating of 43 on average, which puts it just above Cadillac, Mini, and Lincoln. The study takes into account such models as the C-Class, GLE SUV and GLS.
