The terrace of the restaurant, described by the press: in Kyiv, you could eat while admiring the beauty of the city. Photo from the 1910s
In 1914, a restaurant terrace was opened in the "Prague" Hotel, which was located in the very center of the Ukrainian capital. This place immediately became popular – newspapers wrote about it, and wealthy people did not miss the opportunity to see the city from above.
Old photos were published on the Telegram channel of the "Kyiv Vibe: The City Magazine" community. This building has survived to this day.
"Kyiv residents on the open terrace of the "Prague" Hotel, 1900s," the post reads.
According to the community, the hotel and restaurant were located at 36 Volodymyrska Street. The building was built in 1880, but it was only in 1914 that the roof terrace was opened. Newspapers of the time wrote enthusiastically about it, and wealthy guests did not miss the opportunity to see the city from above.
As a reminder, the village of Darnytsia Carriage Repair Plant, better known as DCRP, was founded in Kyiv in 1934. At that time, these were two- or three-story buildings that looked almost like palaces due to their stucco moldings and appearance.
The capital's Rusanivka residential area is completely surrounded by an artificial canal, which gave this area the popular name of "Kyiv Venice." In the 1980s, a series of photographs were taken here that captured the beauty of this location.
