Movie distributor MUBI has unveiled the first full trailer for the feature film The Substance starring Demi Moore. The horror was first shown at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, where it won the award for best screenplay and received 13 minutes of applause.
In the trailer, the main idea of the tape is revealed a little wider. The movie is set to release this fall. Demi Moore, who is often praised for her incredible look at 61, will play a woman afraid of age-related changes.
What The Substance is about
The tape is filmed in the style of "body horror". The audience will be scared not by ghosts, tense plot twists and screamers, but by changes in the human body. The trailer showed how experiments with DNA turn into horrifying changes in the eyes, back and other parts of Demi Moore's body.
The Substance will tell the story of a 50-year-old aerobics star who has lost popularity and demand because of her age. Producers advise her to admit aging, but suddenly there is a way out on the horizon - a substance that allows you to regain your youth.

Critics' reaction
The first reviews of The Substance after the premiere of the movie in Cannes brought the tape a solid score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. The media said it was an "almost perfect" horror.
The drama will appear in cinemas only in a month. However, it stll received 7.8 out of 10 possible points just for the trailer on IMDd.
