A "new Simpsons prediction", which is expected to come true in 2024, is spreading online. According to the author of the video, the world is facing an imminent catastrophe.

However, US Today refuted the author's claim, arguing that it was based on facts, not fiction. The publication also noted why one should not believe in the "predictions" from The Simpsons.

A new prediction of a disaster

A video about a new eerie Simpsons prediction appeared on Facebook at the end of December 2023. The author claimed that in episode 9 of the 24th season, Homer is preparing a bunker for his family, which is fully stocked with provisions. The protagonist feels that something terrible is about to happen. "Soon after, a solar storm hits Springfield. A silent, invisible storm that sweeps through the city causes dire consequences," the author says.

Pictures illustrating the words are also shown. However, they are not images from the original episodes of The Simpsons.

What the episode was really about

The 2013 episode of The Simpsons mentioned in the Facebook post does not mention a "solar superstorm" or make any specific reference to 2024. In fact, the episode is called "Homer Goes to School," which depicts the main character joining Springfield Prep, a survival group.

The story centers on a power outage, but it's not the result of a "solar superstorm." It happens when an electromagnetic pulse from a faulty machine at the nuclear power plant where Homer works hits Springfield.

Why you shouldn't believe The Simpsons

There have been many cases when fans of the show claimed that The Simpsons predicted the future. Among them are the riot in the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, the outbreak of monkeypox, the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and the collapse of the Silicon Valley bank.

However, the show's creators refuted this idea. "When people say that The Simpsons predicted something, it's just them satirizing real events of the past, and since history keeps repeating itself, it seems like they predicted something," former showrunner Bill Oakley told Reuters in 2020.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA spoke about 5 predictions from The Simpsons that came true in 2023. Trump's arrest and Barbie mania are among them.
