From a good vacation, we expect not only the opportunity to relax but also to visit some picturesque places. And nature gives us incredibly beautiful landscapes, such as the pink Lake Torrevieja in Spain.

According to the Express, the reservoir of incredible delicate color is located just an hour's drive from Benidorm in the province of Alicante. It is part of a large natural park – Lagunas de la Mata Torrevieja.

To admire it, you will need to get to the city of the same name as the lake, located south of the Costa Blanca. The most convenient way to get to the reserve is along Calle Sol.

The unusual color of the water in Lake Torrevieja is due to the work of various microorganisms in the water and the high salt content. The two magical ingredients are salt bacteria and microalgae. They feel comfortable in water that contains as much as 350 grams of salt per liter (almost like the Dead Sea), and at the same time produce pigments that color the water so unusually.

And the local mud, enriched with salt, is considered to be healing. It is said that immersing the body in water or contact with mud helps prevent skin and lung diseases. It also relieves joint pain.

While doctors are skeptical of such claims, one thing is certain: local mud deeply exfoliates and cleanses the skin. However, if you have minor injuries or your skin is very sensitive or excessively dry, on the contrary, you may feel a burning sensation during the procedure. Salt will cause irritation, so it is better to refuse the procedure for such people.

However, those who want to swim in the pink water will be disappointed – you cannot swim in Lake Torrevieja. Since it is part of a nature reserve, the requirements for visiting it are very strict. Swimming is prohibited and even walking along the edge of the shore is not allowed everywhere – a careless step can harm the local ecosystem. You can only walk around the reservoir on foot or by bicycle, animals are not allowed to be off-leash, and groups of more than 15 people must notify local authorities of their visit.

But here you can admire flamingos in their natural environment. The birds have a particularly rich pink color because they feed on plankton, which is colored by pigment from the water. Therefore, you will not forget the trip.
