Any excursion in the center of Kyiv must pass through the House with Chimeras, which is located on Bankova Street. Thanks to old photographs, we can see what this building looked like in the first years after its construction.

Archival photos of those years were published on his Telegram channel by Kyrylo Stepanets, a Kyiv guide. In addition, you can see the construction process of one of the most famous buildings in the government quarter.

"A house with chimeras in the 1900s," the post reads.

The House of Chimeras is a brick building decorated with mythological and hunting scenes and is the main architectural structure of the early Neo-Gothic style in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. It got its name from its sculptural decorations, which are themed on the land and underwater worlds, hunting attributes, and mythical creatures.

The architect was Władysław Horodecki, who built it in 1901-1903 as an apartment building with a residence for his family. He chose the site for the building above a steep cliff on Bankova Street. The sculptor Elio Sala created the sculptural decorations based on his own sketches.

As a reminder, Dmytrivska Street in Kyiv under its current name was laid out between 1838 and 1849. Throughout the years, its appearance has been constantly changing, and the houses that were built at the beginning of its existence are gone. In addition, it left its mark on the history of the city - it was part of the legendary Yevbaz, and a "bosiatsky store" used to operate here.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, on Andriyivsky Descent in Kyiv, you can find a house that has been standing on this street for 150 years. The building, which has survived to this day, can even be seen in archival photographs.
