The National Bank has issued "new money": what 5 UAH with a unique design looks like

The National Bank of Ukraine has put into circulation a new commemorative 5 UAH coin. It is dedicated to the director, representative of the wave of Ukrainian poetic cinema, Serhii Paradzhanov.

This was reported by the National Bank itself. They noted:

• the coin was minted in 7,500 pieces;
• the coin is made of 925 silver.

"This year marks the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth. In his honor, the National Bank will put into circulation the commemorative coin "Serhii Paradzhanov" on September 4, 2024. It continues the series "Outstanding Personalities of Ukraine" and is a symbol of the indomitability, creative freedom, and eternal search for truth by Serhii Paradzhanov, whose legacy still lives on in every frame, in every scene," the statement reads.

What the new coin looks like

The obverse (front side) of the coin features a stylized image of a pomegranate fruit in section and its grains on a mirror background. The image presented is "a kind of allusion to the maestro's naked soul, in which a huge place was given to Ukraine, where he lived and worked for some time."

The reverse side features a stylized portrait of Serhii Paradzhanov and a collage of fragments of his works. Above the composition are the inscriptions:

• "Serhii Paradzhanov";
• "100".

Where to buy the coin

The commemorative coins "Serhii Paradzhanov" will be available for purchase starting from September 10, 2024, in the online store of numismatic products of the National Bank of Ukraine. In addition, the coins will be sold at distributor banks:

• Ukrgasbank;
• Tascombank;

• PrivatBank;
• Oschadbank;
• FUIB.

"Sales by distributor banks will be carried out gradually as they are shipped by the NBU Banknote Printing and Minting Works," the NBU said.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the National Bank is also withdrawing coins of different denominations issued before 2003 from circulation. The goal is to optimize the denomination range. However, it will not be possible to get rich on such kopecks – due to the fact that they were issued in large numbers and made of ordinary materials, these coins will not become expensive and collectible.
