The most unreliable car brands you should avoid are named
A brand's popularity takes a long time to build, and it can be destroyed in a second. If you make a mistake with the quality of a car, increase fuel consumption, or complicate maintenance, professionals will start criticizing the brand.
This is exactly what happened to six automakers the products of which came under a barrage of criticism from professional mechanics. GOBankingRates has talked to experts to compile this list. And here are the brands that got into the anti-ranking.
Ford
The American company has significantly lost its reliability recently. According to the J.D. Power, Ford cars have an average of 239 problems per 100 cars. This makes them one of the least reliable. It also increases the time and money spent on repairs. The most common problems include engine trouble, transmission failures, and electrical system malfunctions. And that's with an average fuel consumption of 13 liters per 100 kilometers, which is a lot.
GMC
One of the leading brands the cars of which are also recommended to be avoided. Yes, they have impressive performance, but their reliability suffers. The transmission and suspension are particularly weak points. A very expensive car brings even more costs as it often breaks down and needs maintenance. In the city, GMC cars consume an average of 11 liters of fuel per 100 km, and 8.5 liters on the highway.
Volvo
New electric cars are the most problematic for the Swedish brand. On average, studies show that Volvo has 245 problems per 100 cars. At the same time, they often require very expensive repairs. Volvo also has a 30.46% chance of needing a major repair within the first 10 years. Some common areas where Volvo's have problems include electrical system failures, infotainment system malfunctions, and other issues with high-tech components.
Mercedes-Benz
The popular German brand has recently failed to live up to its fame or the cost of its new cars. In addition, Mercedes can be very expensive to maintain. The quality of the transmission has decreased in new cars and some driver assistance functions do not work properly. J.D. Power reliability study showed that there are 218 problems per 100 cars, making Mercedes Benz quite unreliable.
Rivian
Despite an innovative approach to electric vehicle design and impressive performance, Rivian cars are noticeably plagued by reliability issues. Electric cars are generally more expensive than traditional models, and it can be difficult to find the right parts and qualified technicians for Rivian, making them a potentially expensive purchase and a real problem to repair.
Land Rover
This luxury brand has recently been criticized for frequent electrical system failures and air suspension problems. Therefore, the cost of servicing Land Rover has become prohibitive. Therefore, mechanics advise avoiding these cars if you do not want to spend a really significant amount on a car and then invest heavily in maintaining it in working condition.
