The legendary football coach Sven-Goran Eriksson died in Sunna, Sweden, at the age of 77. In the spring, he announced that he had been diagnosed with an incurable stage of pancreatic cancer and had a maximum of a year to live.

This was reported by Aftonbladet. Representatives of Eriksson's family issued a press release saying that the coach died in the circle of his loved ones. "The family asks to respect their right to grieve privately and asks not to be contacted," the document says.

Eriksson spent his career as a player in the lower leagues of the Swedish championship but became a famous coach. His first major success was with Gothenburg in the 1981/82 UEFA Cup, when the team defeated Hamburg in the final.

After that, he worked with Benfica, Roma, and Sampdoria in Lisbon before taking over Lazio in Rome. The Swede turned the Eagles into one of the strongest teams in the country and led them to the championship in 2000. Also, under Eriksson's leadership, the Italians won the Cup of Cups and the European Super Cup.

This brought the Swedish specialist worldwide fame and he became the first ever foreign coach of the England national team. However, he failed to achieve great success with it.

Eriksson ended his coaching career in 2019 when he resigned from the Philippine national team.
