Lithuania, located in the heart of the Baltic region, is rapidly gaining popularity among travelers as Europe's best hidden gem. In a new international ranking, this country was ranked first among European destinations and second in the world, ahead of many well-known tourist destinations.

Despite the fact that significantly fewer tourists come here every year than to popular resorts in Spain or Greece, Lithuania offers unique experiences at affordable prices, express.co.uk writes. This small country with less than three million people is famous for its picturesque landscapes, medieval cities, and natural resources.

Lithuania offers a variety of recreational options, from hiking and cycling in pine forests to beachside relaxation on the Baltic Sea. The country's capital, Vilnius, will become the "Green Capital of Europe" in 2025, emphasizing its commitment to sustainable development.

Lithuania pays special attention to the preservation of cultural heritage and natural resources. The resorts of Druskininkai, Birštonas, and Palanga are known for their medical treatments that include the use of local minerals and amber. There is also the world's first "amber sauna" built from three tons of natural amber.

Among the main natural attractions are the Green Lakes, which enchant with their emerald color, and the Labanoras Regional Park with more than 285 lakes. The village of Sventsele on the coast is no less interesting, attracting outdoor enthusiasts. Kernave, a historical complex that preserves the spirit of the past centuries, is a UNESCO heritage site.

According to the World Happiness Report, Lithuania is one of the 20 happiest countries in the world, leaving behind the UK and the US. Accessibility, rich culture, and hospitality make it attractive to those looking for an alternative to popular tourist destinations. The cost of recreation here is much lower: a dinner in a restaurant or a glass of Lithuanian beer is several times cheaper than in Western countries.

According to 2023 data, Lithuania received 1.1 million tourists, which is significantly higher than during the pandemic period. However, this number is still far from the figures shown by popular resorts such as Spain and Greece. At the same time, this indicates the country's huge potential in the tourism industry.
