The fate of the goalkeeper of the national team of Ukraine in Real Madrid has been finally determined

Andrii Lunin will be Real Madrid's main goalkeeper until Thibaut Courtois recovers, Defensa Central reports. The Madrid club's number one tore his cruciate knee ligaments before the start of the season.

At the Valdebebas training base, the head coach of the "creamy" Carlo Ancelotti said that it was the 24-year-old footballer of the national team of Ukraine, and not the Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga, who would defend the goal of "Real". Andrii's recent matches convinced the Italian specialist to choose favor of our compatriot.

Thus, Lunin will stand in the frame for the home derby with Atletico Madrid (February 4). Then the Spanish vice-champion will play in La Liga with Girona (February 10) and on February 13 will fight with Leipzig in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on January 18 it became known that the Real Madrid management intends to keep Lunin. Andrii received an offer to extend his agreement with the "royal club" until the summer of 2030.

On January 14, Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 4-1 to win the Spanish Super Cup for the 13th time in its history. Lunin was in the starting lineup and played a full match, saving 9 shots.

The 24-year-old native of Krasnohrad (Kharkiv Oblast) joined Real Madrid from Luhansk-based Zorya in July 2018 for a fee of €3.5 million. Since then, he has played on loan at Leganes, Real Valladolid, and Real Oviedo.

This season, after the injury of Real Madrid's main goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, Arrizabalaga took his place in goal, having already played in 11 matches. In five of them, Andriy made zero saves.
