"The condition does not allow": why did the famous Ukrainian biathlete interrupt her career

Mykola Zots talks about Daria Blashko's absence from the Ukrainian national team

World Cup medalist, and Ukrainian biathlete Daria Blashko will not compete for the national team in the next international season. This was announced by the President of the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine Ivan Krulko and the head coach of the women's team Mykola Zots.

Blashko, a naturalized Belarusian, missed the last season of the World Cup and the IBU Cup due to illness. And now the athlete wants to take a break to sort out her health and rest psychologically.

"I recently met with Daria Blashko. It was last week. We had a rather long conversation. She will make a final decision for herself, but at the moment she wants to take a break from biathlon," Krulko said.

"This is her personal desire. We have created all the opportunities and conditions for Dasha Blashko to train, but obviously, it is because of her health. High-performance sport, on the one hand, keeps athletes in good health, but injuries accumulate that do not allow them to perform at the appropriate level," added the head of the FBU.

The head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Mykola Zots, also spoke with Blashko just two days ago and confirmed that the biathlete is not in the best shape at the moment.

"Today, her physical condition does not allow her to be in the team, to match the level of the Ukrainian national team. Not because of her potential, but because of her current condition. She is dealing with her health, but this pause has also affected her psychologically," Zots said.

"That's why Dasha wants to rest. Not only to get her health in order, but also to rest a little bit psychologically, and then decide what to do next. Dasha will not be on the team for the summer training. And this is our mutual decision, not because the coach doesn't want to," the national team coach emphasized.

We would like to remind you that Blashko was born in Belarus, for which she played until April 2017. On September 29, 2017, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree granting the biathlete Ukrainian citizenship. At the 2021 World Championships, Daria became a bronze medalist in the relay and also showed the 14th result in the sprint.
