By choosing one of the best used executive cars, you'll get a modern, stylish vehicle that also offers a high level of performance and comfort, but at a much lower price than a showroom.

Executive cars usually offer a wider range of technologies. AutoExpress experts have published a rating of the best used full-size and compact premium cars on the secondary market.

Volvo S90

There are several perennial favorites in the executive car segment, but the Volvo S90 is often overlooked. This is a big advantage for used car buyers: the S90's low popularity means it often offers better value than more obvious German alternatives. However, the selection on the secondary market is not as great, but you can still find good deals.

The S90, along with the V90 wagon version, went on sale in 2016 with 187 hp D4 and 231 hp D5 diesel engines with all-wheel drive. All of them use 2-liter four-cylinder engines. A year later, the V90 Cross Country (XC) was introduced with standard all-wheel drive and a 65 mm higher ride height; a 187 hp T4 petrol engine was also added to the range, and a 245 hp T5 option was introduced in August 2018. The 2020 update brought mild hybrid technology to improve fuel economy.

Tesla Model 3

Operating costs are extremely low. Experts say that even consumables such as brake discs and pads last longer in an electric vehicle than in an equivalent gasoline or diesel car thanks to regenerative braking systems. All Model 3s are presented as four-door, five-seat sedans, with the difference between them being the battery pack and standard equipment levels - the Performance model being the flagship. However, all Model 3s are well-equipped, with few differences between the different editions.

BMW 5 Series

For more than half a century, the BMW 5 Series has been a staple of the BMW lineup, and in its seventh generation (2017-2023), it is a more advanced vehicle. Equipped with some of the best engines, agile, reliable, comfortable, refined, with excellent technological content - the BMW 5 Series has truly become a cult car.

Audi A4

Much of what applies to the BMW 3 Series also applies to one of its arch rivals. Although the Audi A4 has a slightly lower level of handling than the BMW, it also has high-quality and reliable equipment, a well-designed interior, and gasoline and diesel engines to choose from (although, unlike the 3 Series, there is no plug-in hybrid). There are sedan and station wagon body styles, both of which are available in large numbers on the used car market.

Mercedes E-Class

Luxurious, sophisticated, safe, well-equipped and comfortable, the Mercedes E-Class is one of those cars that it's easy to think is overrated. But you should at least try to take it for a test drive. You'll see that the E-Class is worth every penny.

BMW 3 Series

For decades, the 3 Series has been one of the most complete compact cars with exceptional interior design and ergonomics, a superior driving experience, excellent build quality, and efficient gasoline, diesel, or hybrid powertrains.

Lexus GS 450h

Self-charging hybrid executive sedans are all the rage today, but it was Lexus that started the movement in 2006 with its original GS 450h. A more attractive second-generation version appeared in 2012.

Jaguar XE

The car's 2-liter diesel engine is powerful and economical. Early examples do not have the best infotainment system, and the interior is not as upscale as the A4. The 2019 update has reduced the XE's engine lineup to three options: there is a 2-liter turbocharged diesel with 178 hp and a pair of four-cylinder gasoline units that produce 247 and 296 hp, respectively.
