Automotive experts predict that 2025 will be the year when electric vehicles will be in the spotlight. However, fans of traditional SUVs with internal combustion engines will not be left without interesting options.

Many successful models with powerful gasoline and diesel engines will debut in the 2025 model year. And the Financial Express has collected five of them that really deserve your attention.

Renault Duster

The iconic Duster is making a strong comeback in 2025. The third-generation model has been completely redesigned and features a fresh exterior, updated interior, and new powertrain options. The SUV will be offered on the international market with three powertrain options: 1.0-liter turbo petrol, 1.2-liter mild hybrid, and 1.6-liter powerful hybrid. There are rumors that the Duster may appear with a 1.3-liter turbo gasoline engine.

Toyota Fortuner MHEV

In 2025, the Fortuner will see several significant improvements. The updated version of the SUV is already available on the international market. The most noticeable change is that the 2.8-liter diesel engine switches to mild hybrid mode. It comes with a 48V electric system, which Toyota says has helped increase fuel economy by 5% compared to the non-hybrid version. The hybrid system delivers an additional 16 hp and 42 N-m of torque for a total output of about 200 hp. The MHEV version comes only with a 6-speed automatic torque converter and is available in 2WD and 4×4 variants.

Tata Sierra ICE

Tata Motors will bring the Sierra model back to the market in 2025. The SUV will be available in two versions – gasoline and electric. While Tata Motors has not officially confirmed the powertrain, there are strong indications that the new Sierra may debut with the 1.5-liter turbocharged 168 hp gasoline engine unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023. A diesel variant is also expected to be offered. The model may also have two transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for all engine options.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-seater

Maruti Suzuki is all set to make its mark in the large SUV segment with the upcoming 7-seater Grand Vitara. Built on a longer wheelbase to accommodate an additional row of seats, the redesigned Grand Vitara takes inspiration from the electric version, which is scheduled to debut in January 2025. The spy images show an updated cabin layout with a larger infotainment system. As Maruti's flagship model, the 7-seater Grand Vitara will continue to offer a 1.5-liter atmospheric gasoline engine and a 1.5-liter powerful hybrid engine.

Kia Syros

Kia has unveiled its second compact SUV, the Syros, which will go on sale in January 2025. The square body shape brings an element of practicality, while the content brings features introduced in the segment, such as six parking sensors (including side sensors), flat door handles, a 30-inch display that combines the infotainment system, driver's instrument cluster, virtual climate control switches over-the-air (OTA). The new SUV gets an adjustable rear seat that can recline and move. The Syros also comes with a 4-way electrically adjustable driver's seat.
