Slovenia is a frankly underrated country among Ukrainian tourists. So it's time to fix it. We'll tell you where to escape from the heat during the season below.

Koper

The largest coastal city in the country is located on the Istrian peninsula. It is considered a real sea gate. It has a moderately warm climate with high rainfall. The air temperature ranges from 24°C to 27°C. The resort is famous for its developed infrastructure, and the beaches are clean and comfortable. The city's Žusterna Beach is 1 kilometer from the center. Just across the street is a water park with open-air pools, slides and areas for children.

In early July, you can visit the Fešta Kalamarov festival, a great event for those who like to eat. Tourists will be able to taste grilled squid, various types of pizza and salads, and taste local wine. On the last day of the month, we recommend visiting the Rumena Noč celebration. It is dedicated to the cultural characteristics of the region.

The architectural monuments of Slovenia will tell travelers about the rich history of the country. In the XII century, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built. A tower and bell tower were added 200 years later. If you go up to the observation deck of the fortress, you will see an incredible panorama of the city.

You can see how real nobles lived in the Praetorian Palace. The fabulous castle was built in the Renaissance and Gothic styles. Today, it houses the Museum of the History of the town, an old pharmacy, the city hall and a hall for ceremonies.

Portoroz

Translated from Italian, the name of the city sounds like the Port of Roses. Lovers of these flowers will definitely like it here. They grow almost everywhere.

The well-developed infrastructure gives tourists unlimited opportunities for nature walks, recreation, and entertainment. There are also spa centers and unique springs with healing mud. Back in the XII century, the monks of the Basilica of St Lorenz used sea salt water to treat rheumatism, obesity, and dropsy. Since then, Portoroz has been developing this tradition. It specializes in diseases of the respiratory system, skin, neurology, gynecology, and musculoskeletal injuries.

Active recreation enthusiasts can try various sports: sailing, surfing, water skiing, banana boating, and skydiving. Yachts and other vessels can be rented on the coast. Near the center there are walking and cycling routes, tennis courts, a gym and beach volleyball courts.

Be sure to visit the Forma viva exhibition of modern open-air sculptures. To see the world's only "human fish", go to the Strunjan and Sečovlje saltworks. We also advise you to visit one of the most picturesque castles in the country - Predjama. It was built right at the entrance to the cave. There is a legend that the knight Erasmus used to live here. He came into conflict with the most powerful dynasty of the time, the Habsburgs. After that, he was killed because of the betrayal of one of his men.

Izola

The ancient city is located on the Adriatic coast, 10 kilometers from Portoroz. It is famous for its clean and comfortable promenade and a large yacht club. The air temperature in summer ranges from 24°C to 27°C. The resort is perfect for families with children. The coast is mostly pebble, but there are areas with water slides and playgrounds for children. If you are looking for a more relaxed and quiet atmosphere, then head to the wild beach at the foot of Belvedere Hill.

Local restaurants can be found in the southern part of the province. They serve national and Italian cuisine.

By the way, you can often meet sailing enthusiasts in the town. The area is characterized by a constant wind, which creates excellent conditions for water activities. Moreover, there are ships to Venice from the passenger marine station.

Be sure to go to the central square of the city. Here is the most beautiful building - the Besenghi degli Ughi Palace. It was built in the XVIII century. From any part of the province you can see the bell tower of the Church of St. Moor. It is considered the architectural symbol of Izola. We also recommend visiting the Hiša Morja museum. Here you can see exhibits of 35 ship models, a real fishing boat, and a 3D model of the development of the former island town.
