Series about doctors and medical topics are of constant interest because they raise the most important questions of life. But how do you make sense of the wide variety of medical shows broadcast by Netflix, for example?

Screen Rant decided to compile its top medical series available to streaming viewers. Here are the top five, which it called the best.

Virgin River

The series tells the story of Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse practitioner and midwife who decides to leave her home in Los Angeles after a series of painful events. She answers a job ad in Virgin River, a remote village in Northern California. There she hopes to start over.

The series was so popular with viewers that it broke one of Netflix's records. With the announcement of the show's seventh season, "Virgin River" became Netflix's longest-running English-language drama. It's a gentle and sweet show for cozy viewing. Despite the fact that it does not claim any outstanding merits, the viewer will get a lot of emotions from it, both medical and personal.

The Mindy Project

The sitcom was created by comedian Mindy Kaling and starred comedian Mindy Kaling. She plays Mindy Lahiri, an obstetrician-gynecologist who constantly faces the difficulty of balancing her personal and professional life. This romantic comedy series shows a more lighthearted, funny side of the medical profession as Mindy has to deal with unusual patients and an equally odd group of doctors, nurses, and paramedics working in a small medical practice in New York City.

Critics have noted how, season after season, Kaling has made The Mindy Project a funnier and wittier show. She has been praised for her ability to create three-dimensional characters and believable yet hilarious situations for them.

Doctor Cha

The cast of the South Korean mini-series "Doctor Cha" is headed by popular actress Om Jung Hwa. She plays Doctor Cha Jung-seok, a housewife who decides to return to her medical career after a 20-year break. She is prompted to return to work by an unexpected crisis. Doctor Cha ends up as a resident at the same hospital where her husband Seo In-ho (Kim Ben-chul) works as the chief surgeon. There, Doctor Cha learns more about her own capabilities and what she has overlooked in her life after all these years at home.

The series raises the topical issue of female unfulfillment. And it convincingly shows how an almost 50-year-old woman is able to bring her rich life experience to her work, proving that age is just a number.

Call the Midwife

The series premiered in January 2012, and since then the show has returned every year, regularly changing the main characters and traveling through the decades. The cast of "Call the Midwife" has featured many talented British actors over the seasons, who have captured the images and voices of doctors and nurses of the 1950s and 1960s. Each season of the show revolves around a new outbreak of disease, a medical problem that has been discovered recently, or some other event related to the world of medicine. And the characters have to confront the circumstances and look for the best solution.

The series is mainly about midwives and nuns from Nonnatus House, who do most of their work in the poor East End of London. It's a nostalgic, harsh and carefully crafted series set in post-war London, a period that is rarely covered from a medical perspective. 'Call the Midwife' deals with social and personal issues in detail, which makes the drama touching and engaging, even though the cast is constantly changing.

Grey's Anatomy

The crown jewel of Shonda Rhimes' television empire, Grey's Anatomy, has been on the air (it's scary to think about) since 2005, and there is still no talk of the project being canceled. The main character is mainly Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). Over the course of many seasons, she grows from a surgeon-in-training to the head of the general surgery department at the fictional Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle, Washington. Numerous well-known actors have appeared in the series, including Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, and Patrick Dempsey.

"Grey's Anatomy" is perhaps one of the greatest medical television shows of all time, setting the stage for modern medical drama. Everything that came after it was influenced by this series in one way or another. The artistic value of the show is debated, but the audience's love for it remains beyond any doubt.
