The best among hybrids: models with a long range
Hybrid cars are becoming increasingly popular due to their efficiency and environmental friendliness. One of the advantages of hybrids is the range, which depends on the ability to combine an electric and gasoline engine, thus providing greater efficiency and convenience for drivers.
Experts have released a rating of hybrid cars that deserve attention due to their impressive range and technical characteristics. The details are provided by TopGear.
Volkswagen Golf eHybrid
The arrival of the Mk8.5 Golf brought with it a number of updates. This hybrid car provides up to 143 km of electric range. The eHybrid delivers 204 hp thanks to a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 19.7 kWh battery (almost double the 10.6 kWh of its predecessor). In addition, there is a sportier GTE with a total output of 268 hp.
Skoda Superb Estate IV PHEV
The fourth generation of the Skoda Superb received a plug-in hybrid powertrain only in wagon form. It offers a range of 135 km on electricity thanks to a 19.7 kWh battery. The Skoda Superb Estate IV PHEV has a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with 147 hp and a 114 hp electric motor mounted on the gearbox. The trunk volume is an impressive 510 liters (1770 liters with the rear seats folded down) while charging from 10-80 percent on a 50 kW charger takes just over 25 minutes.
Volkswagen Passat eHybrid
The Passat, which is now only available as a wagon, has a range of 131 km in the eHybrid configuration. The Volkswagen Passat eHybrid has an identical 510-liter trunk as the Skoda. Experts suggest choosing a 2-liter engine. In the gasoline version, the car has a power of 204 or 265 hp, and in the diesel version - 150 or 193 hp. More powerful variants have all-wheel drive. All are mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox as standard, except for the 1.5-liter hybrid, which works with a six-speed gearbox. It produces a combined 201 hp from the engine and 114 hp from the electric motor.
Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e
In recent years, the Mercedes GLC has strengthened its position as a bestseller. The current best electric range is the 300e, which is powered by a 2-liter petrol engine combined with a 134 hp electric motor and offers up to 125 km of electric range thanks to a 31.2 kWh battery. A full charge takes approximately 30 minutes with the optional 60 kW CCS fast charger.
Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid
The hybrid setup is equipped with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, an electric motor, and a 19.7 kWh battery. Although the car has a slightly reduced electric range of up to 123 km.
Range Rover Sport P440e/P510e
The all-electric version is due out later than 2025. So if you want the electric benefits of a Range Rover Sport, you'll have to make do with a plug-in hybrid for now. There are two to choose from - the P440e or P510e, both with a 3-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine combined with a 141 hp electric motor and a 38 kWh battery. The total power is 434 and 503 hp, respectively.
Range Rover P440e/P510e
The fifth-generation Range Rover comes in similar hybrid variants to the Range Rover Sport but achieves a 120 km electric range due to its greater weight and reduced aeration efficiency. The 38 kWh battery can be charged in about an hour on a 50 kW DC charger or in five hours when connected to a 7 kW home wall charger.
Skoda Kodiaq 1.5 TSI iv
The second generation Skoda Kodiaq also has a hybrid system that promises up to 120 km of electric range. The car combines a 147 hp 1.5-liter turbo engine with a 114 hp electric motor for 204 hp and a total torque of 258 lb-ft. The 25.7 kWh battery (19.7 kWh of usable capacity) located under the rear seats supports charging up to 50 kW, which means it takes less than 30 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent.
Mercedes-Benz E300e
The sixth-generation E-Class sedan is available with a 2-liter turbo diesel or 2-liter turbo diesel combined with a 127 hp electric motor for a total output of 308 horsepower. The PHEV is the fastest, capable of reaching 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, and its 25.4 kWh battery pack is good for a claimed range of 112 km on electricity alone. It is also available as a station wagon, although due to the extra weight, this car will only be able to travel up to 109 km.
Mercedes-Benz C300e
"The C300e may well be the world's best PHEV," concluded TG's Olly Q when Merc's eco-friendly sedan faced off against its main rival, the BMW 330e, emphasizing the C300e's 110 km range. Like the aforementioned E-Class, there is also a C300e wagon that offers up to 107 km of range and a larger trunk.
