Belarus is building a military town 40 kilometers from the border with Ukraine

The Ministry of Defense of Belarus is building a military town near Gomel, 40 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. This project started in 2023 and should be completed in 2027.

This was reported by the Belarusian edition of Radio Liberty. The journalists published the facility's passport and footage from the construction site.

Earlier, the media reported that the construction of a military camp and training ground in the Gomel region was sponsored by the state investment program for 2023-2027. In 2023, 500 thousand rubles were allocated from the budget for this purpose, and in 2024 and 2025, 10 and 40 million rubles are to be allocated, respectively.

Radio Liberty's sources have recorded construction on the territory of the former Chaika pioneer camp in the Gomel district. This location is located roughly in the middle between Gomel and Rechitsa, with an asphalt road leading to the border with Ukraine (the border crossing in Nova Guta is about 40 kilometers away).

Construction equipment is now parked on the site of the former camp, and workers are laying communications. The 1393rd artillery ammunition base of the military unit No. 52208 is currently operating next to the new facility.

"It is possible that the military town will be built not only on the territory of the former Chaika camp, but also on the territory of the abandoned neighboring camps - Galaktika, Lesnaya Polyana, and Liteishchyk. There is no activity there yet, but the "outsiders" have already been expelled. For example, airsoft enthusiasts who were practicing there were kicked out of the Galaktika pioneer camp," the source said.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that preparations for the construction of a military camp for the "southern operational command" of the Belarusian army were underway in Belarus near Gomel. It is planned to be built on the basis of five abandoned children's camps in a tract near the village of Nova Buda. The camps in question are Chaika, Ogonyok, Galaktika, Liteishchik, and Lesnaya Polyana.
