"The Avengers" team will be led by the new Captain America: details are known

Marvel Studios has officially confirmed the relaunch of "The Avengers" superhero franchise. But it was still not known who would lead the team of people with superpowers after the death of Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.

And now the first details have begun to emerge. Thus, in an interview with Collider, the director of "Captain America: Brave New World," Julius Ona, confirmed the fan theory that Sam Wilson, i.e. Captain America played by actor Anthony Mackie, will become the new superhero leader.

"All I will say now is that my heart and soul are in this movie. It will cement Sam Wilson as our new Captain America and as the leader of "The Avengers" going forward. So I'm just excited to get this out into the world," said Ona.

According to the plot of the movie "Avengers: Infinity War," the previous Captain America, Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, grew old and retired. His shield was taken up by a new hero.

Anthony Mackie has already told reporters that he had no idea what fate awaited his character. The reason is that he did not read the script of the movie to the end right away.

Meanwhile, "Captain America: Brave New World" will tell the story of Sam Wilson's rise as a leader. According to the Marvel universe, he is not as strong as his predecessor, because he does not have the super-soldier serum in his veins. Moreover, Wilson, who was previously known as the Falcon, faced only a few threats, including confronting Winter Sodate and helping the Avengers defeat Thanos. However, in the solo movie, the superhero will stand alone against the Red Hulk, played by Harrison Ford. And in the new Avengers, he and the rest of the characters will fight Doctor Doom – this is the character Robert Downey Jr. will return to the cinematic universe in.

It is not yet known how Marvel studio bosses plan to introduce a supervillain with Downey Jr.'s appearance into the new story. According to the comics, his new character, Dr. Doom, is an enemy of the Fantastic Four. A movie about this superhero team is also due out this year. The main roles will be played by Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby, with whom Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bacrak will appear on the screen.

Marvel fans can also expect the return of Dr. Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. There are rumors that we will see Chris Evans in the role of Nomad again, although the actor himself denied it somewhat uncertainly. Apparently, the audience will also see Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. The appearance of Tom Holland as Spider-Man is also called possible, but the studio has not yet confirmed this information.

The solo movie "Captain America: Brave New World" will be released this week. It will debut in Ukrainian cinemas this Thursday, February 13. The film will be released worldwide a day later. The first film from the new phase of the Avengers' history, subtitled "Judgment Day," is scheduled for May 2026.
