Tesla Model Y has dramatically lost the top spot in European car sales: who is in the top 10
Tesla Model Y became the most popular electric car in Europe in 2023. It was expected to hold its position in the future, but things changed dramatically. A loud triumph was followed by a sudden drop, as often happens.
Tesla Model Y lost its leadership in top sales. Experts analyzed the market and published a rating of the most popular cars among European buyers.
Sales data in the EU and the UK show that in January-June 2024, the Dacia Sandero was one of the most popular cars in Europe, partly because prices start at 11,500 euros, making this model extremely affordable.
The second place was taken by the VW Golf. In the first half of 2024, 126,993 units were sold. The VW Golf is ahead of the Renault Clio, which rounds out the top three with 114,623 sales. The small French hatchback is followed by the VW T-Roc, the best-selling SUV in Europe, with sales of 111,381 models for the half-year.
The Peugeot 208 dropped to fifth place on the list despite being at the top of sales in 2022 ahead of the Dacia Sandero and VW T-Roc. In the first half of 2024, 107,097 units were sold in Europe. Another car from the VW Group, the Skoda Octavia, had 102,945 buyers from January to June. This put it just ahead of the Citroen C3 with 102,304 sales, enough to secure 7th place.
Tesla Model Y secured eighth place. The Tesla Model Y is undoubtedly the best-selling new electric vehicle on the market, and the sales results are impressive considering that it is significantly more expensive than other vehicles on the list.
It is followed by the Toyota Yaris Cross with 99,694 new registrations and the Toyota Yaris hatchback with manual support, with combined sales of 93,576 units.
