What the Algarve offers to tourists

The Algarve is a paradise in Portugal that beckons with its beauty and tranquility. This region, which covers a large area of the Atlantic coastline, is at the intersection of cultures, natural resources and modern development. There are so many interesting locations here that it is simply unrealistic to see everything in one trip. But there are things that are worth doing first.

Conquer the waves of the Atlantic Ocean

If you've been dreaming of mastering surfing for a long time, the Algarve is the perfect place to make your dream come true. It is here that the longest stretch of the Portuguese coast, called the Costa Vicentina, is located. It can be found in a protected area and has many spectacular beaches.

Every year, surfers from different parts of Europe come here to conquer the waves. It may seem like an easy activity, but the local waters are quite powerful and rough, so not everyone can do it.

But don't be too upset. Along the shore, you will find many schools that help beginners get on the board. For this purpose, private or group lessons are held. If you are persistent, you will catch your first wave in a few hours.

By the way, there are small hotels and camping areas on the Costa Vicentina where you can stay for a few nights. This is a good opportunity if you want to admire the ocean views.

Taste fresh fruit from local markets

The Algarve has many bustling markets that attract tourists with delicious fresh fruit and incredible color. The most famous of them is located in the port city of Olhão. This marketplace is occupied by two pavilions at once. Both of them are built of bright red bricks.

The first of these premises is entirely dedicated to fruits and vegetables. They are brought here by local farmers and small entrepreneurs. Interestingly, there are practically no imported products here as everything is from local fields and gardens.

The second pavilion sells fish and fish dishes. We advise you to stop by to try the traditional seafood soup and other delicious delicacies.

If you want to feel the authentic Portuguese atmosphere, go to the market on Saturday. This is the day when most traders and ordinary citizens come here.

Watching the sunset on a deserted beach

The Algarve has many beautiful locations with amazing views. But the most beautiful sunset can be seen on the small beach of Praia da Marinha. This picturesque piece of land is surrounded by colorful rocks on one side and the waters of the Atlantic Ocean on the other.

In the evening, there are almost no people here. The beach is quite far from the bustle of the city, so you can feel calm and close to nature. As soon as the sun begins to disappear behind the horizon, you can enjoy the view of the sky, which will shimmer with yellow-brown hues. It's worth moving away from the tourist locations and heading to Praia da Marinha.

Explore the unique locations of the Ria Formosa Natural Park

Lagoons, a barrier island, reefs, amazing trees and plants: all of this can be seen in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, located in the southern part of Faro County near the city of the same name.

The territory of this landscape zone is so large that it is very difficult to get around it on foot. Therefore, tourists are increasingly choosing to travel by bicycle or kayak. During such excursions, there is every chance to see storks, herons, and even pink flamingos. In addition, there are various animals that often come out to people.

It is important to note that the park administration carefully monitors the preservation of this ecologically clean area. Therefore, you should not make bonfires or leave garbage here, as in other similar parks.

See dolphins at arm's length

The Algarve coast is famous for its abundance of marine life, including dolphins. There are really a lot of them here. But to see these mammals up close, head to the village of Sagres. On the local beaches, you will find guides who will organize a boat or yacht tour for you right to the places where dolphins are most often found.

By the way, such cruises have made this small village very popular among tourists. Therefore, if you want to come here for a few days, book your accommodation in advance.

Visit the most famous cave in the region

It would seem that it could be easier than visiting a popular tourist location on the ocean. But it's not that simple. Benagil is a famous cave that can only be reached by water on calm, windless days. But if you get here, you will feel like you are in some kind of parallel reality.

The incredible views of this place will make your heart beat faster. The sun's rays passing through numerous openings will illuminate your path, and amazing landscapes will open through natural "windows".
