Surgeons will be able to operate on patients remotely: what is 6G technology that is a "game changer"

Anna BoklajukNews

The 6G technology, which is currently under development and has every chance of being a game changer, will be as close to real time as possible. Its speed may enable surgeons to perform "online operations" for the first time.

According to a representative of the company involved in the development of 6G technology, it differs from all other previous mobile networks in the amount of time it takes to transfer data from a device to the network. Developers say the delay will be nanoseconds compared to milliseconds in 5G, Metro writes.

According to Greg Flack, senior manager of networks and planning at AWTG, a technology company that played an important role in the introduction of 5G and is working with universities to test 6G, this technology could be revolutionary for the healthcare industry and even lead to the first "online surgeries."

"The doctor will be located somewhere in India, but will be performing a surgery in the United States using a robot. The surgeon will have to react in real time, every millisecond from machine to machine matters. That's why this is possible with 6G," he explains.

6G technology can also affect the automotive market, for example, making automated or self-driving cars much safer, as it will be possible to make decisions and analyze the environment faster.

Developers assure that 6G could appear on our devices as early as 2026 or 2027, although this technology is not yet ready, as all the equipment needed to transmit this high frequency has yet to be manufactured.

"For a tenfold increase in frequency for 6G, the antennas will become really microscopic. It is quite a challenge to manufacture transmitters that will generate such frequencies," Flack says, adding that when the technology is ready and tested, it will initially be used only in small areas where there is high demand. However, it is possible in the near future.
