Large-scale flood in Buryatia

Russian Buryatia has been suffering from massive flooding for the third day in a row. In this regard, on August 3, a state of emergency was introduced throughout the republic.

This was reported by Russian media. According to the head of the republic, Alexey Tsydenov, the Khonkholoy dam in the Mukhorshibir district has been breached.

Tsydenov said that traffic on the Ulan Ude-Chita highway was also stopped.

The local prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the dam failure at the Khonkholoy Reservoir.

Traffic on the Baikal federal highway has been completely stopped, and authorities recommend using alternative routes. Bridges over the Tugnuy, Sukhara and Khonkholoyka rivers have been severely damaged.

More than 200 local residents were evacuated from the flooded areas. Video from Buryatia shows how the water flows are demolishing potato fields and livestock in their path. Local residents' houses and cellars are flooded.

They are desperate and are planning to build dams with their own hands to save their crops. They also report that the water has already flooded potato fields and vegetable gardens in some settlements. Residents are also advised to move their cattle away from the fields as soon as possible, as those who fail to do so risk losing their animals.

As reported, the aggressor country Russia continues to suffer from severe floods. In at least two regions - Trans-Baikal and Buryatia - dozens of houses have been flooded.

Earlier, it was reported that a dam had collapsed at the Kialim Reservoir in the Chelyabinsk region of Russia. Six settlements were flooded at once, and local authorities urged people to "pack their belongings and be prepared for evacuation."
