Star of Ukraine's rivals refuses to play at Euro 2024
The main goalkeeper of the Belgian national team, Thibaut Courtois, refused to participate in the final part of the 2024 European Championship in Germany. The goalkeeper of the Red Devils, who will be Ukraine's rivals if it enters the tournament, does not intend to force his recovery from an ACL injury.
This was reported by the Spanish radio station Radio Marca. Courtois has already informed the management of Real Madrid about his decision. The 31-year-old Belgian focused on making a full recovery and getting fit for the new club season.
Thus, Courtois will not play for the Belgian national team at Euro 2024. "The Red Devils, according to the draw, are in Group E, where they will play Romania, Slovakia and the winner of the championship qualifying playoffs on their way to the League of Nations. Ukraine, Israel, Iceland, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will take part in the tournament.
On March 21, in the semifinals, the Ukrainians will play the Bosnians away from home, while the Israelis will host the Icelanders. On March 26, the winners of the pairs will face each other in a battle for a ticket to the championship.
It is worth noting that Thibaut Courtois is a competitor of Ukrainian Andriy Lunin at Real Madrid. The day before, it became known about a secret agreement between our goalkeeper and the Spanish superclub.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the Bosnian press accused Ukrainians of "dirty propaganda" aimed at their team, and former national team player Ognjen Varnjes suspected that his compatriots would not be allowed to attend the 2024 European Championship out of pity for Ukrainians.
