Starship launch

Elon Musk's American company SpaceX has conducted a second test launch of the Starship spacecraft, designed to deliver astronauts to the Moon from a station in Texas. The first attempt was made back in the spring and was unsuccessful: the rocket simply exploded without even leaving the atmosphere.

The impressive footage of the re-entry was posted on SpaceX's X account (formerly Twitter). The launch took place on November 18 at 7:00 local time (14:00 Kyiv time).

The rocket's new height is 397 feet (121 meters), which is 27 meters higher than the Statue of Liberty. Its system is reusable, which is a key element of SpaceX's design designed to significantly reduce costs.

On April 20 this year, the Starship spacecraft was launched for the first time from a site in Texas. However, at an altitude of 38 km, the rocket was blown up in the air due to an emergency: three minutes after launch, it began to spin, and its first stage did not separate.

SpaceX insists that explosions in the early stages of rocket development are welcome and help make design decisions faster than ground tests, although the time needed for the modified starship to be ready for the planned 2025 lunar landing is running out.

The biggest change since the first launch has to do with how the spacecraft separates from the launch vehicle.

Starship has been modified to use a "hot stage," meaning that the upper stage's engines will fire while it is still attached to the booster. This approach is commonly used in Russian rockets and can provide much more power.

Other changes include improved ventilation holes to reduce the likelihood of an explosion.
