Sowing calendar for March: what and when to plant

Alina MilsentNews

The beginning of spring is an important period for gardeners and vegetable growers, because it is at this time that active work on sowing and planting various crops begins. In March, you can start sowing seeds of heat-loving vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, and eggplant for seedlings for planting outdoors.

Using the sowing calendar will help you determine the favorable days for these works. OBOZ.UA publishes a sowing calendar for March and tells you when to start gardening.

Tips on the phases of the moon

The phases of the moon are traditionally considered an important factor affecting the growth and development of plants. The lunar cycle consists of four main phases.

New Moon - during this period, there is a decrease in plant activity. It is recommended to refrain from sowing and planting, as the seeds may not germinate well.

The growing moon promotes active growth of the aboveground part of plants. This is the optimal time to sow and plant crops that produce fruit above ground, such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and herbs.

It is recommended to harvest crops, especially medicinal plants, at the full moon, as they have the highest concentration of nutrients. But it is better to refuse from planting work.

The waning moon is the phase when plant energy is directed to the root system. This is a favorable period for planting root crops (carrots, beets, potatoes) and root care activities such as pruning and transplanting.

Organic fertilizers, such as humus or compost, should be added to enrich the soil with the necessary elements.
